Excerpts From Diary of a Teenage Colonist - Phillip Jameson

July 4th, 1585

Today, my life has taken an exciting turn - we have landed on Roanoke Island in the New World, where we shall set up a colony for the King of England. I will try to document events in this journal as they happen, so that all of my brethren in England may know what an amazing new land we have before us.

-Phillip Jameson, Age 16

This new world is amazing! It is very different from the English countryside. Currently, we are setting up small dwellings to stay in untill we are able to set up houses. We have yet to have contact with the native people.

I have only just re-discovered this journal, it seems in the excitement of the New World, I had all but forgotten about it. Life in Roanoke is hard, we must work constantly to sustain ourselves. This is not really the life I had imagined, but I know it will benefit the English Crown.

-Phillip Jameson, Age 18

This is to be the last writing of Roanoke. Due to hardship and Unfriendly Indian relation, we are going to make for Croatoan Island, in hopes that we will set up a new colony. I believe will shall fail at this attempt, but I pray that we do, and fear not of death, for I know that in helping with this venture, my soul is saved.
